Blog EntryProblems Uploading and How to Fix itMar 21, '07 4:03 PM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone
Some times your connection to Multiply drops for some reason while you are uploading new content (photos, videos, music). Before creating a new post, look at the respective section in your page and look for a Draft post with the files that were already uploaded. Simply edit the post, add the remaining content and publish it.

If you have problems uploading Music, try uploading them one at a time, to the same playlist, then publish it. Uploading smaller files (low bitrate) may also help.

If you have problems uploading Photos, try using another uploader tool. For instance, if you've used the Java tool, try using the HTML one next time.

You have some empty albums (with no pics and/or no name) and want to get rid of them? Simply upload a new photo, move it to the 'ghost' album and then delete it (it will be seen after a pic is added to it in your Photos page, maybe as a draft).

Last but not least, you can try using another browser. If you haven't tried yet, use Firefox: it works best with Multiply and is more secure overall.

If you have any questions about this or other topics, please title accordingly and post >>> HERE

THANKS ! Your assistance is greatly appreciated! :)

If you don't mind my asking: do we need some special software for Java? If yes, which? I see only a grey square when I try using it.
The other uploaders work just fine.

Micro$oft does not include Java Run Time Machine on its OS's due to monopoly reasons (it wants to force the web developers to use the insecure ActiveX instead). Mac OS X and Linux should have it pre-installed. If you are stuck to Windowze, you can download it for free from:

Also make sure it's enabled in IE by going to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and scroll down to make sure it's checked.

In Firefox, go to Tools, Content tab, and enable java there too :)
lfom wrote on Mar 21, '07
It's enabled by default on Firefox and any decent browser, I guess... ;)
dantcer wrote on Mar 21, '07
Not on IE.. but thus your reference to "decent". lol Also, M$ updates will change it on IE also. IE 7 is even tighter!!
ullangoo wrote on Mar 21, '07
I suspected some enable-issue here - that's why I wanted to know what to look for. but if it's default setting on Firefox, then -.
I'm supposed to get upgraded this week, and then I'll get Firefox, cross my heart and hope to die.
dantcer wrote on Mar 21, '07
Firefox was just upgraded today also :)

No expletives please. Java is a program installed on your computer and may not be functioning correctly. It must be up to date, and also enabled by the browser you are using. For more information, ..

my photos were not uploaded completely and i want to delete those created albums but it does not appear on the drop down list nor does it appear on my site however its says i ahev 64 albums but i originally have only 59? how can i delete them? :)
dantcer wrote on Mar 31, '07
Try to upload a photo into an existing album, and look for them there (they are possibly there in draft form also) Or they could be a phantom album. Try to upload one photo into one of those albums, and then make sure you publish the album afterwards. Then it should be showing to you at that time to delete it.
mayentot wrote on Mar 31, '07
i tried it but it still does not appear. i can't find any way to enter "those" albums for deleting. :)

my connection failed while uploading some photos.

on my photo album page, it says that i have 21 albums when there are only 20 albums.

i tried to rearrange them and there i saw 21 icons but i can't see the "unexisting" album on my site. how can i delete it?
lfom wrote on Jun 15, '07
As explained in the main post, simply upload a new pic to an existing album, edit it and then move the newly uploaded pic to the 'ghost' album (it should have a blank name). After this, if you go to your Photos page you should see a draft of the new album with that pic you've moved to it. Open the draft and delete the entry. =)

You can't rename the song, as Multiply uses the info stored in the file's ID3 tags to show the song info...
Please start a new thread with new questions as requested. Thanks.

whenever i'm clicking on browse, nothing shows up. i tried copying the path of the mp3 file but it didn't work. it rather loaded so fast and went on a page where you had to make a new playlist and include songs which are apparently NOT there. so wow. it'll be great if someone will give some tips. :D but i'll also work it out again `cause maybe the PC's kinda down. errrr, i want a Mac. hmp. though i think i'll suck on working out its stuff. haha LOL

Hi there! It looks like I have a "tagged" empty album (posted) with a name but no pics, which appears neither in my list of photo albums, nor in the drop-down list when I try to move a newly uploaded pic to it to make it "visible" (according to Luiz Felipe's advice). However, it shows up only in the tag list when I click on the specific tag. When I click on the album, Multiply tells me that the album doesn't exist. How do I delete this "echo" entirely, so that it won't even appear under the tag list? Since the tag is the only link I can see, will it disappear when I delete the tag? How do I delete this tag when I can't get into the album to remove it?

Thanks!

It means that you should upload a new pic to any of your existing albums, edit it and then move the pic to the 'ghost' album. Then you will be able to open and remove it. Here is a more detailed tutorial about the procedure:

Click on the share link below the post and copy the EMBED code. You can paste it in an entry at your site (if it's a blog entry, make sure you make 'Edit HTML' before you paste the code). The share link may not be available in some cases tho...

This is great for pix but what about videos. When I tried to 'edit' after clicking on the 'grey' video it goes to a page that says Not Found This Video no longer Exists.. I didn't delete it to begin with. Some are PDF's that have no pix to add to the cover spot. So now what??? It never did this before so something changed and I'm not happy..
lfom wrote on Aug 12, '07
Delete the entry and re-upload the file. If you can't open the entry, try this tutorial:

BTW, it seems that the video section only accepts actual video files now. If you want to upload a PDF, you should use a blog entry and the 'attach' button to upload the file.

Were all albums published? No one was in draft mode? Are you sure?
I don't think there is any way to hide an album from the owner, so either you have deleted it or there is some problem with you account. In this case, I think that the only option is contacting the Customer Service (link on the right >>>>) and tell them about the problem (giving them a link to the missing album, its name, number of pics, etc, helps).

Yes, the "missing" album was published. In fact, there were already comments on most pics there. It's visible to me only if it's still in the Updates page and through the e-mail notice sent to me. I saw a similar problem reported by another user through http://muds.multiply.com. She was told to report it to Customer Service. So I also did. I'll just wait for the response. Thank you!
lfom wrote on Aug 21, '07
If you know the previous or next album related to the missing one, you can go to your Photos page (http://schelliu.multiply.com/photos) and click on them: in te bottom of the post you should see the links for the next and previous. Maybe clicking on them to reach the missing album helps... Then you can try to edit or delete it... Take a look at the comment from another user at this thread:

java has always worked fine for me until a couple of weeks ago. i didn't bother messing with it then because i only had a few pictures to upload and could browse for them. but i have more now and want to get it working again.

i've:

1) updated firefox to 2.0.0.6
2) checked to make sure java is enabled. it is.
3) checked to make sure i have the latest version of java loaded. the page at java tells me to have my software updater check in. when i did that, it didn't find anything to update except itunes. so i'm assuming that means it's updated.
4) i've cleared cache, cookies, history, and passwords as well as dirty dishes from my sink and cookie crumbs from the dining room table.

i'm using an imac. i tested photo uploading on my power book and all seems fine there. but my pictures are on the imac and i don't want to bother with transferring them.

what have i missed? i've read over several posts and can't find anything else that it could be.

if i remove java and reinstall it, where do i find the java file? is it in the library? utilities? i see folders for it in both places? are they the same thing? different?

You cannot do this as far as I know... You have to upload a new pic to create a new album, then you can move pics from other albums to it or remove pics.

I am trying to modify the theme "skyline" and I've uploaded a photo with the same dimensions as the skyline theme photo at the top (i.e. 1012 x 183). However, when I upload it to my Multiply site, it is automatically reduced to 1000 x 180 as the largest photo I can click on/see. This is not the medium sized image or thumbnail image. It's the "maximum" (1000 x 180) that is clickable for viewing. Is this the limit on photo sizes? How am I to replace/modify the Skyline theme when Multiply doesn't allow such a wide photo?
