Blog EntryHow to Fix a Problem in your Main PageNov 20, '07 11:21 AM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone
After the last update (Multiply 3.0) you do most of the page editing and change the settings directly in your main page. You just have to click on the Customize My Site link at the top of your page (right bellow the navigation menu, to the right) or go to Settings -> My Site. There is no other way to change some settings. The only exceptions are the Page Layout and the Welcome Message box, that can be edited using this link: http://multiply.com/setup/pages/content

But sometimes you enter the wrong HTML code and you can't change the settings anymore (or you might have some broken code before the update and now you can't edit your main page at all). So follow these simple tips:

- Download and install the latest Firefox if you haven't done yet. It's a free web browser, more secure and stable than IE (Internet Explorer) and it's more compatible with Multiply too;

- Lately it seems that most problems are due to graphics added by to the Guestbook. If you think it's the problem, please follow the tips in this tutorial to hide the graphics or delete the offending entry:
http://usersupport.multiply.com/journal/item/131/Guestbook_FAQ

- Backup your Custom CSS (when you choose another theme you may lose the code);

- Chose another theme and try to edit the section that has the broken code. You may have to change themes a couple of times if it does not work at the first time.

- If it still does not work, go to the pages below and remove any HTML code, leaving just plain text:
http://multiply.com/setup/pages/content  (Welcome Message and boxes titles)
http://Your_Username.multiply.com/edit/title (Page Title - replace Your_Username with your actual Multiply username)

- After modifying and checking for broken codes, select your preferred theme again and copy your Custom CSS back.

If you still can't edit your main page, you should contact the support staff and give them as much details as your can about what you want to do but can't.

PS1: I saw the above tip the first time on Nov 16th in a group, posted by licatayag.

PS2: There are more shortcuts that may help you fixing problems or getting to 'hidden' pages on Multiply in this other post:
http://usersupport.multiply.com/journal/item/202/Useful_Shortcuts

PS3: If you've hidden something in your Home Page and you don't see the unhide links after you click on Customize My Site, maybe you've set your page to Linear View. Try going back to Boxes View to unhide what you want first:
http://multiply.com/setup/pages/home

Update1:
After the latest Multiply update, the Customize My Site link has moved to the rail, below the headshot.

If you have any questions about this or other topics, please title accordingly and post >>> HERE

:-(

yeah it's true, didn't do anything,& also contacted already the service..

Probably you had some broken code prior the update and you edited the Welcome Message only now. Maybe you code is still there. Use this link to take a look and edit/fix it:
http://multiply.com/setup/pages/content

The part about 'wrong HTML' and 'broken codes' - is that relevant for someone who never makes codes on her own? I mean: can a code in one of Multiply's "ready made" themes break? If so, what do I do if it happens? I certainly can't repair it myself.
dantcer wrote on Mar 30, '07
You need to make sure that you are using the base theme required, to start with, for any customized theme, or you will not get the desired and expected result. Best to save your own css before testing another, and if there is a problem with a code you are using from someone or somewhere else, remove the offending code. Note that broken code will show and be easier to edit with Firefox. IE doesn't always show you broken code. Also, you may need to go back to the source of the code you are given, for further answers. :)

Yes, it is. But only if you have altered your welcome message (or other parts of your page) with html or anything other than simple text.
ullangoo wrote on Mar 31, '07
I haven't. I don't KNOW how to write anything but simple text.

dantcer, I don't understand one word of your answer. What is "base theme required"? What do you mean by "own css"? "remove the offending code" - I don't even know what a code is or what it might look like.
dantcer wrote on Mar 31, '07, edited on Mar 31, '07
Base theme is one of the standard themes on the "choose a theme" page of Multiply.

All customized themes from the customized themes group are "based" on one of those, and css modifications don't work the same for all. So you need to start with one of the standard base "offered" themes by Multiply before doing css edits, (the one recommended) and if you are using an entire customized theme, it is "based" on one of those first. So you must start with that theme installed before you insert the css to modify any theme.

Some css codes, or snippets of them work in all themes, though differently sometimes. So you have to test them of course (the preview page)

Code can refer to either css code or html code that is used to modify your Multiply. Some codes can be broken (incomplete) and distort a page's appearance. The only way to fix this is either to repair or remove the offending code (the code that is causing this distortion)

Click on Customize My Site in your main page then on Edit that will be visible in your headshot (avatar). Or go to Settings -> My Headshot.

PS -> new questions should be done as new entries in the Notes section of the group. Thanks.

I wanted to choose from the basic themes this afternoon then they just showed me a list of stuff that i can change the color of. I also wanted to make a picture that's saved in our PC & make it my background. But every time i put a picture there, it always multiplies... can anyone pls help me???
lfom wrote on Jun 17, '07, edited on Feb 21
You have used the Custom Theme (or Custom Colors Theme). It is the only theme that lets you choose an image as your background, but it will be tiled, you cannot disable it as far as I know. You can either use a bigger image so it will fill almost all the window or use a Custom CSS so you can add other parameters. Anyway, it is a kind of question that is more suited to the Multiply.Design group (link on the right rail >>>>).

PS -> new questions should be done as new entries in the Notes section of the group. Thanks.

The easiest way is to use the Custom Colors theme:

If you want more control, you should customize your CSS. Please refer to specific groups for help in this case, like Multiply.Design.

I am asking the same question as the above person...how "do" you delete a blog entry? Please someone help us...I thank you......
lfom wrote on Nov 5, '07, edited on Nov 5, '07
You have to open a certain post so you can edit or delete it. All of your blog entries are listed in your Blog page (the analogous work for reviews, videos, etc):
http://YOUR_USERNAME.multiply.com/journal

and each item has an URL with a number, for example:
http://YOUR_USERNAME.multiply.com/journal/item/15/

Open the entry and you should be able to click on a link called edit or delete just below the post, to the left, so you make the modifications you want in that post or remove it completely.

If you cannot acces the edit/delete link because you added a broken code to the entry, try this:
http://usersupport.multiply.com/journal/item/93/Editing_a_post_when_the_edit_link_doesnt_work
kiowamahi wrote on Nov 9, '07
I figured it out - I hope this helps... got to your page and click on view all blogs. At the bottome of each blog is edit - delete- reply- etc. from there you can delete the blog or edit it.

dantcer wrote on Nov 18, '07
If they don't have permission to view an album, then no. They saw nothing. They were attempting to check out your photos, that is all, and so they showed in your viewing history as having been to a url. Doesn't mean they could see anything.

You have to remove the code that starts the Flash file, usually an OBJECT or EMBED tag. Use the links above or the ones in the post below to edit the offending area and remove the code:

BIG WHITE BOX... Dec 2, '07 10:07 AM
for everyone

I've looked EVERY WHERE on my groups to pose a question. This is the ONLY place that I found to do this???
PROBLEM:
Shortly after I started designing "My Page" I up/down? loaded a "Video Generator"
(Which I know NOTHING about any type of "Generators" Anyway I put it on "My Page" & it turned out to be this "BIG WHITE BOX" thats BLANK that covers nearly half of my "Video" place??? While ONLY I can see it, it is REALLY annoying. I forgot where I got it, But I've tried EVERYTHING to remove it. I don't know if this has any bearing, But I can't up/down? load ANY videos (You Tube, etc.) to "My Page" Could someone PLEASE HELP me with this issue, for I would like to get rid of it & be able to put some videos on "My Page"
If this is the wrong place to ask this, could someone PLEASE post it in a PROPER place???
Like I said, this was the ONLY place I found, where I could actually write ANYTHING...
I am ETERNALLY GREATFUL.
Sincerly, ~ ~ Lone Wolf ~ ~

Questions should go in notes, and always search first. Change your page layouts to full/box, clear temp files and then hit customize and look again. (You can always change the layout back once you are done)

okay, thanks for the direct links! major help. but im afraid i still have a question.. im really sorry.. my site before had photos in the welcome message, i used codes for that, now i used the direct link to edit my page.. and its gone. what code works? because what i do before was just type
.. how come i cant enter that in the direct link for editing my welcome message content?
lfom wrote on Jan 26, edited on Jan 26
I think you mean you've added pics to your Welcome Message box, right? The link above (http://multiply.com/setup/pages/content) replaces the code with text, so you have to go to your main page again, click on 'Customize My Site', click on Edit on you Welcome box and add the code again. Be careful to add the correct code and add just what you need, or you may have problems again when editing/using your page.

dantcer wrote on Feb 19
You wish to unhide? Click on Customize and at the top of the page you should see all the unhides. Your page layouts must be in full/box though. Table/linear won't let it show.

To change Page Layouts, if you need to, click on Customize/ Page Layouts << Top of page.

dantcer wrote on Feb 19
Can you access the customize feature? Do you see unhides at the top of your page when you do? Are you trying to unhide something you hid? I'm trying to understand if that is exactly what you are trying to do. If you can't do something, exactly what do you see when you try?
lfom wrote on Feb 19
Your page is broken (the headshot is totally misplaced). Try hiding the Guestbook or deleting some comments, or use this link to remove all code from your Welcome box leaving just plain text:

Click on Customize, Edit (next to the content box you are editing) Then tick/untick the favorites you want to show on your homepage. There is no upload/download option there.

You must first upload your content. Then follow these steps.

Please always start a new question in notes, and not add it to an existing post.

Go to customize/ Page layouts (very top) and you can change to linear view. Remember though that anything you hide, you will have to go back to box view to unhide. This might not let your guestbook show either (not sure about that)
