Blog EntryBEFORE YOU POST (Do's & Don'ts)May 8, '07 7:52 PM
by Linda for everyone
PLEASE be kind to those trying to assist with any questions you might have by following the guidelines below, in this and other groups on Multiply.

First and foremost, please look for the answers to your problem in the BLOG first. This is where many tutorials are posted in detail. Then check the NOTES to see if the question has already been asked and answered. The answer may already be there.

Please read the welcome area at each group first, before posting, so you know you are at the right group. Do not use the POST button on the top of your pages to throw up posts willy nilly. Find out what group you should be in, where that group wants you to post to and what the purpose of that group is. This information is usually found in the Welcome Area or readily available and linked to on the homepages. Some groups actually hide sections because they are not to be used. And if you post in the proper group, then less time is spent redirecting you.

Please do not double or triple post the same question in the same group or all the groups at once. Most of us are members of the same groups, and we only need to see the question once, in one place. If it's posted in more than one place, then all tend to get ignored and replies can't flow in an order to assist you.

Please do not type in mixmatched font (UpPeR aNd LoWeR cAsE LeTtErs) either in the title of your post or in the content area. It's too hard to read, and will usually be ignored by those that can really assist you. Please post in a professional manner.

Please, do not use HELP or any version of that as a title! Correctly title your question with what the problem is. Everyone needs to look for an answer before asking a question. And answers can't be found with that title.

When replying, please read ALL the replies in the thread first. Sometimes the correct answer is further up, or the foundation for further assistance is further up also. Maybe the problem is already fixed !

MOST importantly, the poster may have already been referred to another group that is specifically for their problem. So no need to add replies if the poster has been informed they are posting at the wrong group.

Be kind in your posts and your replies! Address the question and answers. NOTHING else. Groups are not a place for personal issues. If the purpose of your reply isn't to address the question with a solution or similar problem, then a reply is not necessary. Everyone, both admins and members volunteer their time here and the other groups to help everyone. So respect for the group itself is first and foremost, and the group is members who have questions and need answers. Remember, everyone sitting at a computer is a real person.

Please don't hijack a thread. That means, if you have a question also, especially a different one, start a new post! Don't put another unrelated question in the same thread. There's no way for other members to find answers if you do.

Sometimes a word may need to be italized or bolded, or capped or quoted to emphasize as a way of further explaining. However,
please don't type in all caps. Online this is the equivalent of shouting and is very offensive. If however, you are visually impaired and need to type in all caps, please mention that, and that you need the replies in all caps also. Members are always willing to accomodate! :)

If there is a language barrier problem, do the best you can and feel free to mention that. There are many multilingual people on Multiply that may be able to assist you or translate. And if you wish to reply yet there appears to be a language barrier, feel free to ask for further clarification.

Please return, and in your thank you, let everyone know what worked to fix your problem. That helps everyone. Sometimes it's more than one thing that works, and sometimes none. Which means someone can further assist you or redirect you for help. Sometimes it's something else you find that works that wasn't mentioned in the replies. So always come back to the post and let everyone know if your problem was resolved!
