Blog EntryHow to make your site privateJun 22, '07 11:00 AM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone
You have many entries in your site and now want to make it all private so non-contacts and anonymous (not logged in to Multiply) can't see your posts?

Unfortunately, there is no way so far to make it at once. You have to edit post by post, and change the privacy (access) settings. If you want more control about who can see it and a few new options while composing/editing entries, turn on Advanced Posting in your settings (go to Posting Options):
http://multiply.com/setup/advanced-posting

You may want to do it to your account and profile (personal data) settings too:
settings --> My Account
http://multiply.com/setup/account

View Profile (http://Your_Username.multiply.com/profile) --> Edit Profile
http://multiply.com/setup/profile

The Welcome box is the only thing that's always public, but you can hide it if you want. Just click on Customize My Site on your main page and then on the Hide link found in your Welcome Message box. If click on Edit, you can choose if the link to your Profile page is visible or not if you keep the Welcome box in your page. You can also use the Edit link in your Contacts and Groups boxes to change their privacy settings (choose who can see them).

As a side note, blocked users will appear in your Viewing History, but they won't be able to see any of your posts nor leave comments. But be aware that if they log out from Multiply, they will see your public posts (the ones for Everyone), but not comment.

Question: Can I change my username (userid)?

Short answer: No, you can't.
Long answer: You can only change your display name/surname, but the username (userid) is fixed, and you can only have one for each email. Even if you delete your account, the userid you had won't be available for new registrations, so no one will be able to create an account using it, either a personal or a group account. You can, however, create a new account if the userid you want is available, but you cannot automatically move the content from the old account to the new one...

You can change your account info (display name, address, etc), including some privacy settings, here:
http://multiply.com/setup/account

You can add/edit your profile info here:
http://multiply.com/setup/profile

What can I do if I forget my Multiply ID or password?

You can retrieve your Multiply ID on this page:
http://multiply.com/user/forgot/id
and your password on this page:
http://multiply.com/user/forgot/password

Also, if you didn't click on the confirmation link that Multiply automatically sends to the email address you used during the sign up process, you won't be able to go to your Message Board (My Multiply) not accept invitations. So it's the first thing you have to do when you register. If you don't find the email, maybe it's in your junk mailbox (to avoid this, add multiply@multiply.com to your contact list or whitelist) or you made a typo when wrote the address. You can check/change it here:
http://multiply.com/setup/account

And request another confirmation email here:
http://multiply.com/user/send-confirmation-email

If everything is OK and you still have problems, usually reseeting your browser (emptying the cache and deleting all cookies) helps. For more info about this, go to this post:

GUIDELINES TO SAFEGUARD YOUR MULTIPLY ACCOUNT (Subject to Change)

To avoid having your Multiply Account at risk for cancellation, below are just a few of the simple guidelines that will assist you in keeping your Multiply account safe, and the most REPORTED reasons an account is cancelled for.

1. Age Requirement - You must be 13 or older to have a Multiply account. This means also, that Multiply users who are parents should not set up accounts for their children unless they meet this age requirement. Multiply reserves the right to cancel not only children's accounts, but anyone setting up an account for children not meeting this age requirement. So don't put your own account at risk.
(Supervision of children's accounts that do meet the age requirement is also strongly suggested.)

2. Adult Content - Most don't realize that Adult Content is not just images. It includes posted or embedded images, videos, links within and outside Multiply, tags, and WORDS or WORDING, and other content deemed adult and at Multiply's sole discretion.

NOTE: Adult content is allowed in CURRENT Private Groups in the ADULT category ONLY and you must be 18 years of age or older to access these groups.

-----------------------------------

UPDATE FROM MULTIPLY: MARCH 26TH, 2007

"Multiply removed the Adult category from groups. Existing Adult groups won't be removed, and per our Terms of Service they remain the only places where adult content may be posted on Multiply. As has always been the case, any hint of child exploitation - posted anywhere - will be reported to law enforcement.

We originally introduced the Adult category in groups because, while Multiply was not (and is not) intended as an Adult site, we did not want to censor our users and this was a way to allow Adult content while keeping it safely hidden from minors and anyone else who did not want to see it.

However, as time has gone on, the abuses of our Terms of Service stemming from Adult content have taken up enough of our customer service resources that we felt we needed to do something about it. Again, Multiply is not, and has never been an Adult site. We have created the best possible way for people to share their lives with friends and family on-line, and our focus needs to be 100% on improving that core service.

As stated, existing Adult groups won't be removed, but going forward we won't be devoting any new resources to this area. "

NOTE: EXISTING ADULT GROUPS are locked as adult, and the category cannot be changed.

-----------------------------

3. Adult Content Headshots - Most don't realize that your Headshot (logo) shows not only on your homepage which is open to the general public, but on the message boards in your network, on every post or reply you've ever made, and ALSO in the Viewing History of every page you've ever been to. And when you change your headshot, it changes in all those places at the same time. So keep headshots and logos clean at all times!

4. Spamming - Multiply has zero tolerance for spamming and has safeguards in place to protect accounts and groups from being spammed. However, spammers create new tricks every day to try to get around these. So occasionally it gets through. Multiply deletes Spammer accounts very quickly, and it shows the user name as xxxx once deleted. (though the thread may still be there awaiting deletion by a group admin) No need to report spam if you see this as the user name, as it as already been taken care of. However, contact customer service immediately with the link to the spammers page, and the link to the threads that were spammed if the account is showing active. It's OUR Multiply. Let's all take care of it.

NOTE: SPAM can take many forms. So please be cautious in posting links to your Multiply site or group to another multiply site or group as a way of getting new contacts or group members. It is wise to get expressed permission by a site or group admin before linking to your site or group.

5. Flooding - Repeated malicious postings at the same or multiple sites, same thread or multiple threads. This constitutes malicious conduct.

6. Commercial Use - Multiply is a free service for the personal use of individual members only and not to be used for any commercial reason. Put simply, don't open a store on Multiply OR open a Multiply account for the purpose of linking to a commercial site!

7. ID Harvesting & PM Spamming - Don't use Multiply's free service to harvest email addresses or Multiply ID's for the purpose of spamming. Don't allow anyone else to sign into your account for that purpose either. (Protect your password)

8. Soliciting funds or funding for any reason, either commercial or non-profit. Just don't ask for money from other members for any reason.

9.
Copyrights and Trademarks - You may not post, distribute, or reproduce in any way any copyrighted material, trademarks, or other proprietary information without obtaining the prior written consent of the owner of such proprietary rights. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ESPECIALLY REFERS TO MUSIC, even Music set to "contacts only") Please read TERMS at the bottom of your page.

Accepting the Terms of Service during the setup of our account is the contract we sign with Multiply. This is just a few suggestions and is not inclusive. For more information and details, please review the TOS, in the right rail or click on "Terms" at the bottom of every Multiply page.

Please help keep Multiply safe and help Multiply keep you safe as well!

Blog EntryRight Rail / Google AdsMar 18, '07 7:45 AM
by Linda for everyone
You may discover that in landing on some of the homepages at Multiply, two things. Not only are there no google ads in the right rail under the headshot, but some of the people here have been able to customize their right rail also.

Originally Multiply offered paid subscriptions and those members were granted access to customizing their right rail. However, when Multiply went to all FREE accounts, new members no longer have this option. Previous members however retained this feature. That's not to say that Paid subscriptions won't be coming back! But for now that is not an issue being addressed by Multiply.

Google Ads pay the Multiply bills. So they are necessary,to keep this great service up and running and FREE to all members.

Attempts to alter google ads on your Multiply site can result in loss of your Multiply account. So let's allow Multiply pay it's bills on time and enjoy all the great services offered for FREE. :)
