POST Moderation In Groups - What Is It And WHY

You go to POST in this group, (any group) and you suddenly notice a little note near the submit button that says something like "This post will be subject to Moderation, etc).  You may NOT notice it.

But then you hit submit and suddenly you see that your post is only a DRAFT.  And you will see another more obvious note that your post is held for moderation, etc.

NEW GROUPS (This one is not) and/or NEW MEMBERS of any group are initially subject to this new SPAM safeguard.   They will see this sometimes with their first post to a new group or group they have just joined.  It's called MODERATION even though the post has the Draft Designation.

Multiply installed this spam filter and only Multiply has access to it.  NO admin has access to your post or the controls of this filter.  It must clear through Multiply.  So please don't think that any admin of any group is holding your post!  They aren't!  The filter is working great!  Multiply just wants to review your first group post to ensure you aren't one of those spammers.  The Moderation message states that it can take up to 24 hours.  Usually it clears very quickly though.  So please be patient and don't DELETE this post!  It's the one that gets you past the spam filter and you should not see it again.  Deleting the post means you have to be screened again.

Again, NO admin in any group is moderating or holding your post so they cannot release it.

As new members to this group, everyone will probably be subjected to this slight annoyance.  But please let it clear so you won't see it again!  If you have any problem with a post clearing within that time frame, please notify CS.  Admins can't see your moderated post to report it.

All group admins are welcome to link to this post.

Blog EntryInbox (previously My Multiply) BasicsNov 15, '07 10:47 PM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone

The Inbox (previously called Message Board or My Multiply) works like this (if you've set Sort By to 'Latest Reply' in its Preferences):

- if you visit a post and later a new comment (reply) is added to it, the post will be moved to the top of the list (most recent ones), so you get notified that it has a new reply. It will continue to be this way as long as you visit the post to see the updates.

- if you don't visit the post, then the entry in your Inbox won't 'go up' in the list, and will eventually go away from the the first page. But if you later visit the post, new replies added to it will again move the entry in your Inbox to the top.

Of course, you can enable Show "Subscribe," "Pin," and "Remove" links for each item in the Inbox preferences:

- Subscribe enables/disables email notifications for that post. It's also useful when you enabled the notification when you replied to a post (i.e. marked the 'Forward replies to your_email' checkbox);
- Pin puts the entry at the top of your Message Board for as long as you want;
- Remove deletes the entry from your Message Board (and further updates to it too, of course). It does not delete the post itself, only the entry in your Message Board.

If you removed an entry by mistake or are not getting notifications for a certain thread anymore for an unknown reason, try adding a new reply to the thread yourself and it should be back in your Inbox once more.

You can view messages you are currently subscribed to using this page, where you can unsubscribe if you want:
http://multiply.com/mail/subscribed

As a side note, you can control you automatic email alerts in this page:
http://multiply.com/setup/alerts

There are many other options in the preferences so you can configure your Inbox like you want. Try the many views to find the one that you like most.

Also, above the entries, you can see a 'proximity-bar':

so you can choose from 'how distant' in your Network the entries in your Message Board will come from. You can select only posts from your contacts, for example, or enable and disable posts from groups as well. Lastly, you can click on Custom to create a personalized filter to display only selected posts, useful if you want to find a post from a friend, for instance, or retrieve your Personal Messages.

The Inbox is the most important place on Multiply, and it's unique. Take some time to configure it to your needs and it will help you to find the posts you want and also make things much easier and faster to keep updated with new posts. Have fun.

If you are experiencing issues in your Inbox, please take a look at this post:
http://usersupport.multiply.com/journal/item/17/Message_Board_Issues

Update1:
After the recent changes, the Message Board is now called Inbox, and there is a set of useful pre-defined custom filters to retrieve your Personal Messages and Subscribed threads.

Blog EntryGuestbook FAQOct 23, '07 11:00 AM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone

  • Large pictures may make the column where the Guestbook is in your main page too wide. Either remove the entry or ask the poster to remove the code. Also, you can add this code to your Custom CSS to display a scrollbar when it happens:
          #home_guestbook .replybox { overflow:auto; }

or, if you don't want it to display any image at all:

          #home_guestbook .replybody img { display: none; }

  • How to remove/delete messages from your Guestbook:
At your main page, you won't see the links to delete comments or edit your own replies in your Guestbook. To do this, you have to go to the Guestbook page. You can get there using one of these ways:
            - at your main page, click on the link below your Guestbook "View All NNN Comments"
            - use this link: http://Your_Username.multiply.com/guestbook (replace Your User_Name with your actual Multiply username)

If you cannot find the delete link for the offending graphic, you can try this: use the delete link from another comment and try to modify it to delete what you want, like this: get the delete link from the previous or next entry (right-click on the link and use 'Copy Link Location' on Firefox or the analogous command in your browser), copy it to your browser's location bar (the one where you type the http://...) and modify it to reflect the entry you want to delete.

For instance, the delete link to my 250th entry in my guestbook is something like this:
javascript:confirmLink("Are you sure you want to delete this reply?", "/item/delete-reply/lfom:guestbook:1+250?xurl=http%3A%2F%2Flfom.multiply.com%2F&usertoken=manylettershere")

So, if I want to delete the next entry, I simply copy it to the my browser's location bar, replace 250 with 251 like this:
javascript:confirmLink("Are you sure you want to delete this reply?", "/item/delete-reply/lfom:guestbook:1+251?xurl=http%3A%2F%2Flfom.multiply.com%2F&usertoken=manylettershere")

and press the ENTER (or RETURN) key. A confirmation dialog should appear, then click on OK.

  • Also, you can edit the number of comments displayed at your main page and the access (privacy) level if you click on Customize My Site and then on the Edit link found in the Guestbook box (see the image below).

  • You can now completely disable HTML in your Guestbook replies, just edit it in your main page (see the picture below).

  • If you can't see your Guestbook and you didn't hide it using the Hide link while your main page is in 'Customization Mode', probably you've set yout Homepage to 'Linear View'. Return it to 'Boxes View' to see your Guestbook again:
            http://multiply.com/setup/pages/home

  • If you are still experiencing problems about deleting stuff in your Guestbook and you are using Firefox, you can go to its menu and select: View -> Page Style -> No Style (look to a similar option in your browser if you're using another program) to disable CSS in your page so you can use the delete links to remove any offending material. Then you can enable it again.

  • Groups normally don't have a Guestbook, but you can display one if you change the Page Layout to Linear instead of Box View for the Home Page. (DEPRECATED: does not work anymore)
  • If you try to add HTML code in a comment at someone else's Guestbook that isn't your contact, the HTML will be removed. Of course, the same happens in your Guestbook for people that aren't in your contact list. (DEPRECATED: does not work this way anymore, if you don't want HTML in your Guestbook, disable it completely as explained above)

Blog EntryBEFORE YOU POST (Do's & Don'ts)May 8, '07 7:52 PM
by Linda for everyone
PLEASE be kind to those trying to assist with any questions you might have by following the guidelines below, in this and other groups on Multiply.

First and foremost, please look for the answers to your problem in the BLOG first. This is where many tutorials are posted in detail. Then check the NOTES to see if the question has already been asked and answered. The answer may already be there.

Please read the welcome area at each group first, before posting, so you know you are at the right group. Do not use the POST button on the top of your pages to throw up posts willy nilly. Find out what group you should be in, where that group wants you to post to and what the purpose of that group is. This information is usually found in the Welcome Area or readily available and linked to on the homepages. Some groups actually hide sections because they are not to be used. And if you post in the proper group, then less time is spent redirecting you.

Please do not double or triple post the same question in the same group or all the groups at once. Most of us are members of the same groups, and we only need to see the question once, in one place. If it's posted in more than one place, then all tend to get ignored and replies can't flow in an order to assist you.

Please do not type in mixmatched font (UpPeR aNd LoWeR cAsE LeTtErs) either in the title of your post or in the content area. It's too hard to read, and will usually be ignored by those that can really assist you. Please post in a professional manner.

Please, do not use HELP or any version of that as a title! Correctly title your question with what the problem is. Everyone needs to look for an answer before asking a question. And answers can't be found with that title.

When replying, please read ALL the replies in the thread first. Sometimes the correct answer is further up, or the foundation for further assistance is further up also. Maybe the problem is already fixed !

MOST importantly, the poster may have already been referred to another group that is specifically for their problem. So no need to add replies if the poster has been informed they are posting at the wrong group.

Be kind in your posts and your replies! Address the question and answers. NOTHING else. Groups are not a place for personal issues. If the purpose of your reply isn't to address the question with a solution or similar problem, then a reply is not necessary. Everyone, both admins and members volunteer their time here and the other groups to help everyone. So respect for the group itself is first and foremost, and the group is members who have questions and need answers. Remember, everyone sitting at a computer is a real person.

Please don't hijack a thread. That means, if you have a question also, especially a different one, start a new post! Don't put another unrelated question in the same thread. There's no way for other members to find answers if you do.

Sometimes a word may need to be italized or bolded, or capped or quoted to emphasize as a way of further explaining. However,
please don't type in all caps. Online this is the equivalent of shouting and is very offensive. If however, you are visually impaired and need to type in all caps, please mention that, and that you need the replies in all caps also. Members are always willing to accomodate! :)

If there is a language barrier problem, do the best you can and feel free to mention that. There are many multilingual people on Multiply that may be able to assist you or translate. And if you wish to reply yet there appears to be a language barrier, feel free to ask for further clarification.

Please return, and in your thank you, let everyone know what worked to fix your problem. That helps everyone. Sometimes it's more than one thing that works, and sometimes none. Which means someone can further assist you or redirect you for help. Sometimes it's something else you find that works that wasn't mentioned in the replies. So always come back to the post and let everyone know if your problem was resolved!

Blog EntryFind The Group You WantMar 17, '07 8:30 PM
by Linda for everyone
You can explore and join as many groups as you wish here on Multiply. There is something there for everyone, and one of the best places to meet other Multiply users! Just by conversing in the group, and observing others there as well.

Can't find a group with the search words you are using? No problem! You can click on any of the Group Topics, and browse that way without using a seach word. Perhaps your search word was just misspelled or, a group you are looking for used a different name, wording or spelling. And it's just the group you were looking for!

Perhaps you would just like to browse the topics to see all the groups available. Some group settings require that you join to see the content first. No problem, because if you join any group, and you do not wish to remain a member, you can unjoin the same way. And be sure and reset your email alerts as your groups list grows!

Another great way to explore groups is notice the groups that your contacts are a member of, and send them a PM asking about their groups also! Every group appreciates members!

Enhance your Multiply experience even more by exploring all the great groups on Multiply!

Blog EntryGroupsMar 9, '07 3:45 PM
by Meg for everyone
What is a group and why would I create one?

Multiply groups are the perfect way to share and discuss photos, events, blogs and other stuff with people who like the same things you do. You can go right now to the search groups page to look for groups you might be interested in. If you don't find anything you like, you can always create your own group about a topic you love, or to use as a web site for an organization you belong to. Any group of people that could benefit from an on-line presence with built-in messaging will love Multiply groups.

Groups get their own site located at http://GroupName.multiply.com>http://GroupName.multiply.com">http://GroupName.multiply.com. Whenever someone adds something new to the group's site, you'll see it on the message board, so you only have to check one place to see what's new with your friends and family, and all your groups.

Can't think of any groups you'd want to create or join? How about these examples: your high school or college alumni, people who love golf, everyone in the charitable organization you volunteer with, etc. The search groups page lists a bunch of categories that could give you even more ideas.

There are two types of groups: Public groups, which anyone can search for and join, and Private groups, which you can only join if invited.

Where can I search for all the groups people have created on Multiply?

Right here. You can search by category or enter the type of group you're looking for. All public groups matching your search terms will be displayed.

What is a group Admin?

If you created a group, you are by default the group's Administrator (Admin). That means you can invite or remove members, change the group's name, delete the group and change other group settings. You can also grant Admin privileges to any other group member by clicking "Admin ON" next to their name.

All of the above information has been taken directly from the Multiply FAQ page.
