Blog EntryGroup Search From Any PageFeb 24, '08 8:23 AM
by Linda for everyone
You can now access the Group Search at User Support from any page, without having to go to the homepage welcome area!  (You can still use that one too) Just look at the top of any page next to the title of the Group!  So please search first before posting your question.

If you look down the blogs list of titles on the homepage and also the notes list, you may also find the information you are looking for.

Be sure when you are reading any thread to read all of the replies.  Everything is done to ensure that the correct information is in the replies.  If your question is on the topic of a thread already here, you may add your question to that thread.

If you can't find what you are looking for, please post your question in Notes and title your post with the subject of your question.

Thanks!

Blog EntryAdding Images to Posts or CommentsNov 18, '07 10:41 PM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone

You already know how to add images to your Blog entries (tutorials can be found here or here). It's simple and easy because there is a button for this (among other things) while you compose or edit a blog entry. You can even use it to create the HTML code to place somewhere else that does not have the powerful editing tools: just click on 'Edit HTML' to copy the code.

But if you want to do it quickly in a reply or host your own set of smileys to add to your comments in Guestbooks or in your Welcome Message? Basically, you have to use this HTML command:

<img src="Image_URL">

where Image_URL is the address of the image on the Internet (it cannot be in your computer, it must be hosted online so others can see it). For instance, the blog icon above has this URL:
http://images.multiply.com/multiply/icons/clean/24x24/journal.png

you can then use this command to display it anywhere you want:
<img src="http://images.multiply.com/multiply/icons/clean/24x24/journal.png">

that will show this:

You can even host your images here on Multiply in a private photo album (so no one else can see them) and easily get the code to embed them elsewhere.

Here are some nice tutorials related to this subject that can be found in the New to Multiply group where you can find more details:
http://multiplynewbie.multiply.com/journal/item/46/Hot-linking_images_inside_Multiply
http://multiplynewbie.multiply.com/journal/item/47/Hot-linking_inside_Multiply_-_Part_2
http://multiplynewbie.multiply.com/journal/item/17/Pictures_in_the_text

In the comments of the first one, there is even a tip about how to add an album artwork to your playlist (Music post) so it will display in the Type column if your Music page is set to Table View.

 Another tip: when using code from third party sites, be aware that they may include advertising or even malware with the image code. To avoid this, copy the code from their sites, paste it in a text editor and use only the part of the code that has the IMG tag. For example, this is a code from a known image hosting site:

<a href=http://www.ZangyGraphics.com/picture.php?c=hi&n=271><img src=http://zangygraphics.com/hi/test2.gif border=0></a><br><a href="http://zangygraphics.com/imgs/logo.php"><img src="http://zangygraphics.com/imgs/zangylogo.jpg" border="0"></a>

But the only part you really need to display the image is the one in bold:
<img src=http://zangygraphics.com/hi/test2.gif border=0>

PS: If it seems that you cannot add an image to a friend's Guestbook (or the other way around: if you want to prevent images in your Guestbook), probably you want to take a look at the Guestbook FAQ entry.

Blog EntryHow to make your site privateJun 22, '07 11:00 AM
by Luiz Felipe for everyone
You have many entries in your site and now want to make it all private so non-contacts and anonymous (not logged in to Multiply) can't see your posts?

Unfortunately, there is no way so far to make it at once. You have to edit post by post, and change the privacy (access) settings. If you want more control about who can see it and a few new options while composing/editing entries, turn on Advanced Posting in your settings (go to Posting Options):
http://multiply.com/setup/advanced-posting

You may want to do it to your account and profile (personal data) settings too:
settings --> My Account
http://multiply.com/setup/account

View Profile (http://Your_Username.multiply.com/profile) --> Edit Profile
http://multiply.com/setup/profile

The Welcome box is the only thing that's always public, but you can hide it if you want. Just click on Customize My Site on your main page and then on the Hide link found in your Welcome Message box. If click on Edit, you can choose if the link to your Profile page is visible or not if you keep the Welcome box in your page. You can also use the Edit link in your Contacts and Groups boxes to change their privacy settings (choose who can see them).

As a side note, blocked users will appear in your Viewing History, but they won't be able to see any of your posts nor leave comments. But be aware that if they log out from Multiply, they will see your public posts (the ones for Everyone), but not comment.

Blog EntryPersonalize Your Welcome MessageApr 10, '07 3:14 PM
by Meg for everyone
Customizing your welcome message can help to give your multiply site a personal feel. It's easy to do.

Click on "My Site" at the top of any page within Multiply. This will take you to your personal site's home page. Just to the left of your headshot, right above your current welcome message, you'll see a link that says "Customize My Site". Click on that. A yellow bar will slide down from the top of the page and the rest of the page will have boxes around the various sections.

Click on "Edit" in the upper right hand corner of your welcome box. A new box will appear over the page in which you can edit the title of your welcome message, the content, where you can choose to "Show your Tags at the end of your Welcome Message", choose to "Show a link to your Profile the end of your Welcome Message", and/or choose to play music on your home page. (To find out more about posting music here on multiply, you may want to look through these posts.)

You can add pictures, links, and other doo dads using html in the content section. (If you don't know how to use html, you might want to check out this link to a tutorial. You don't have to learn much to be able to make significant improvements to your posts.)

Once you've made all the changes that you want to, click on the "save" button at the bottom of that little box. You can make other customizations to your site now if you'd like, or you can click the "done" button at the very top of the page.

If you accidentally hide a section and can't figure out how to get it back, you may want to check out this post.
